Safety Planning

Safety plans are guidelines to help reduce the risk to yourself and your children and increase your awareness of your own vulnerability. Whether you are currently living with your abuser, considering leaving, or have left the relationship, a safety plan is vitally important for you to consider.

The safety suggestions in this guide have been compiled from various safety plans. Following these suggestions may help you enhance your safety but they are not a guarantee of safety.
Safety planning is an active process requiring ongoing review and revision, as situations and risks influencing your safety can change at any time.

Studies have shown that the most vulnerable time for a victim is during the separation process. It is therefore important to contact Victim Services of York Region, shelter or community support for enhanced safety planning strategies.
